Mattie Mai Terry

Mattie Mai Terry, 86, of Boonville, IN, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, December 28, 2024. She was born on August 8, 1938 in Ripley, Tennessee, to the late Henry and Mary Bell (Ellett) West.

Mattie Mai was the bright light in her family. As she shared with her daughter, Kelly, she was a little piece of leather but well-put together. She was a fabulous cook and a talented seamstress, making dresses and clothing for her family. Mattie was a singer and a connoisseur of music and made a record as a teenager in Tennessee. She loved fishing and gardening. Mattie loved children, and raised several foster children. She opened up her home to many. Mattie Mai had a very strong faith.

Mattie was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mary Bell West; and her many brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her husband, James Lee Terry; sons, Vincent Bernard Terry, James Darryl Terry (wife-Shannon) and Brian Lemont Terry; daughters, Kelly Nadine Terry, Veronica Elaine Smith (husband-Mark); grandchildren, Christine Smith (husband-Shawn), Nathaniel Smith, Darnail Brimm Terry, Eric Jackson, Dakota Terry, Cheyenne Terry, Ashlee Smith and Miranda Terry; great-grandchildren, Carys Smith, Desean Smith and Nova Terry-Edwards; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue, Evansville, IN, officiated by Rev. Dr. Adrian M. Brooks, Sr., with entombment in Oak Hill Mausoleum.

Friends and family may visit on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
