Michael Woodford Peters, 73, died peacefully on March 3, 2025 surrounded by his children. Born on May 3, 1951, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mike was the son of Dale Woodford Peters and Norma Joan Burlingame Peters. He spent his formative years in Oklahoma City, and after graduating high school, he attended the University of Oklahoma for college and then medical school. While in medical school, he met and married his wife, Marcia. He went on to do his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Oklahoma, and once finished, he and Marcia moved to Evansville, Indiana, where Mike began his 44-year-long career as an Emergency Medicine physician, first at Welborn Hospital and then Deaconess Hospital.
With his calm, confident manner, it was almost as if he was made to practice Emergency Medicine. He thrived in the fast-paced environment and was dedicated to his patients, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues. His ability to remain steady under pressure was a hallmark of his career as was his dry, irreverent sense of humor.
Beyond medicine, Mike was a devoted and proud father who provided unwavering support, wisdom, and guidance to his three children, all of whom followed in his footsteps to become physicians. His influence as both a role model and mentor shaped their careers and lives in profound ways. He adored his five grandchildren and cherished the time spent with them, whether reading bedtime stories, building LEGOs, taking naps or simply enjoying their company.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Marcia MacKay Peters. He is survived by his three adoring children, Lindsey Mossler and her husband, David, Whitney Peters and her husband, Christopher Baca, and Alexander Peters and his wife, Jennifer Choe. He was a beloved grandpa to his five grandchildren. His death leaves an unfillable void in the lives of those who loved him most. He was truly one of a kind. It’s hard to imagine living life without him.
A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Ave., Evansville, IN 47714 with Pastor Bill Altman officiating. Friends and family may visit from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
