Michael Ray Phillips, affectionately known as Mike, was born on February 22, 1959 in Evansville, Indiana and left us on February 25, 2025. At 66, Mike was a character, someone who left an impression on every person he met. He wasn’t shy about sharing his thoughts, often insisting he was right- and we let him think so, at least most of the time.
He graduated from Central High School in 1977, and went on to pursue an associate degree in heating and air from Ivy Tech, an accomplishment he was justifiably proud of. Mike was a member of the West Side Sportsman Club. He also had a knack for pool and often lit up the room with his competitive spirit and good-natured ribbing. His Mustang was more than just a car; it was an extension of himself, much like Maria, his beloved little dog who faithfully trotted through life by his side.
To those who knew him best, Mike could always be counted on to share his thoughts unfiltered, and while he was staunchly firm in his beliefs, it on added a loveable layer to his personality. And though he might not have always said it, his actions spoke volumes in the boundless love he had for his mother, Anna Phillips; sisters, Debra Beck (Alan) and Marilyn Dix (Dan); sister-in-law, Caroline Phillips; and his two nieces and six nephews. He cherished memories of his father, Earl Phillips and brother, Tony Phillips, all of whom preceded him in death.
Join us in celebrating Mike’s life on Monday, March 3, 2025 at Alexander North Chapel. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., followed by a service at 1:00 p.m. officiated by Michael Fritts. Mike’s journey has ended, but the stories, laughter, and steadfast opinions he shared will forever echo in our hearts.
