Myrna Kay Hanauer (Kay), passed away January 10, 2018 at Good Samaritan Home in Evansville Indiana. Kay was born the second of 3 living children to Edgar and Eula Allen in Eldon Missouri on November 29, 1937.
She was raised in Lake of the Ozarks Missouri. She attended and graduated from the Lake Ozark School. As a child she learned to play the piano and loved playing music for most of her life. She also attended one year of college at Warrensburg MO. She married Joseph Eugene Hanauer in 1956 and they had 3 children. Kay was a very hardworking farm wife on their livestock farm at Dixon Missouri. She took care of family, home, livestock, she was a wonderful gardener, cook, and mom. As her family grew up she also developed many artistic interests like painting, candle making, and quilting. Quilting became her favorite activity later in life and she created many beautiful works of art for her family and friends. She also wrote and published a book about vintage children’s fabrics.
When the family moved to Indiana in 1975 Kay returned to the workforce in the accounting department at Wirth Hospital in Oakland City, Indiana. She returned to school and completed her Associate Degree in Accounting with Ivy Tech. Kay worked at Wirth Hospital for many years until she retired as a department head.
Kay is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Hanauer; and son Joseph W. Hanauer.
She is survived by daughter, Cynthia K. Hape, and daughter, Linda S. Voglund (Daniel). She is also survived by 2 grandchildren, Brittany Harper of Evansville and Dexter Hanauer of Fallon, Nevada; sister, Nancy Hall of Fort Mill, SC; and many nieces and nephews.
Kay was a strong and joyous person and a wonderful loving mother and grandmother. Her loss will be deeply felt. The family will be observing bereavement in private, there will be no public memorial service.
