Nancy B. Mabry Walters was born on September 26, 1929 to Harry “Finn” and Mary Mabry Hopkinsville, KY and departed September 2, 2012. She was the eighth of ten children with one surviving brother, George F. Kendrick of Toledo, Ohio, who celebrated his 100th birthday this year, February 29th.
Nancy later came to live with her oldest sister, Ida Mae Moss in Evansville. Growing up she attended Nazarene M. B. Church and Lincoln School where she met her future husband, O’Cecil Walters, Jr. Their union spanned a course of 55 years until his death in 2003.
In her adult years, Nancy became a very active member of the St James M. B. church. There she served on the Kitchen Committee, Usher Board, Willing Workers, Prayer Ladies and the Mother’s Board. Nancy attended Lockyear Business College and later retired from the Pigeon Township Trustee’s Office as an investigator. Nancy loved to sew.
Left to cherish her loving memory is her only daughter Latosha of Evansville; her grandchildren Bridgett (Kelvin) Hudson, of Indianapolis, IN and Kevin Watson of Evansville; her great grandchildren Japhia, Adaiah, and Jeremiah Hudson; a sister-in-law, Irene Walters and several nieces, nephews and friends.
The beautiful and always stylish Nancy or as she was lovingly called "Ms Nancy" or "Grandma Honey," is known for being a sweetheart to all who were blessed to know her. Her pastor, Rev. C.L. Baltzell, has said she has been "a jewel." However, more than all of these things, it is her strength of which she will be most remembered. Even in her final days she was the epitome of strength and a perfect example of what strength looks like as we operate in obedience to Christ, lean on His strength and rest solely on Him.
Her presence will be forever missed on earth, but her soul will live forever in Glory.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the Charlier Hospice Center for their tender care during their mother's peaceful transition home.
Services will be 11:00 AM Friday, September 7, 2012, at St. James Baptist Church, 1808 N. Fourth Avenue, officiated by Rev. Adrian Brooks, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit Friday from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the church.
