

Nina Marjorie Schrepfer Matthews, 89, of Evansville, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 12, 2014. She was born March 25, 1925, in Evansville, Indiana, to the late Fred and Elsie Belle (Graves) Schrepfer.
Nina was a graduate of Bosse High School, attended the University of Evansville, and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Her strong Christian faith was the foundation by which she lived her life, raised four children, and served her Lord.
She spent forty years of her life visiting, comforting, and witnessing to those confined to nursing homes throughout the Evansville area. She considered this her Christian mission. Nina has left behind a lasting legacy for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends of love, support, and service.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Capt. William L. Matthews, Sr., US Air Force; grandson, William L. Matthews III; sisters, Ethelyne Schrepfer Schriber (Earl), Dorothy Schrepfer Becker (Allen), and Mary Schrepfer Evans and brothers, Frederick Schrepfer and Robert Schrepfer.
She is survived by her son, William L. Matthews, Jr. of Albuquerque, NM; daughters, Marcia Matthews Hocker (David) of Owensboro, KY and Joann Elizabeth Matthews of Evansville & Atlanta; son, James E. Matthews of Evansville; grandchildren, Nina Mather Zickler (Christoph) of Neenah, WI, Anne Matthews Carter (Brandon) of Watkinville, GA; Robert E. Zoss, Jr. of Boulder, CO, L. Laurent Zoss (Sheri) of Denver, CO, and Banning Matthews Zoss of Denver, CO; great grandchildren, William L. Zicker, Winston F. Zickler, Ava Jane Carter, Samuel E. Carter, Elizabeth Grace Zickler, and Parker F. Zoss; nephews, John F. Becker (Denise) and Thomas A. Becker (Jenise) both of St. Louis, MO; great nieces, Laura Becker Bertel (Kevin), Kathleen Becker Harris (Bryan); and other nieces and nephews and one great great nephew in St. Louis, MO.
Services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may visit Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and Thursday, from 9:30 AM until service time at the funeral home.
