Palmer “Pat” Hanebutt Palmer Hanebutt, 101, formerly of Evansville, Ind., died Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born February 14, 1918, on a farm in Dubois County near Huntingburg, Ind., to the late John and Matilda Eishoff Hanebutt. He moved to Evansville in 1935 and worked as an auto body repair technician for various dealerships in the area, including Cadillac, Ford, City Chevrolet and Kenny Kent Chevrolet, retiring after 45 years from Kenny Kent Chevrolet. The last 15 years, he was body shop manager for the Kenny Kent dealership. Palmer started and taught the first class (1946) of auto body repair at Mechanical Arts, now North High School. These classes included many returning World War II veterans. After retiring, he worked several years for the Schultheis Insurance Agency. Palmer was an active member of his church, St. John’s United Church of Christ (downtown), having served as president of the church council. He also held many offices in the Lincoln Bible Class at the church. He was a member of Lessing Masonic Lodge #464 for more than 50 years. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite of Evansville. Palmer married Norma Hagemeyer on February 14, 1941. They were blessed with 78 years together. Palmer and Norma enjoyed square dancing and were members of various square dance clubs, including Stomp & Stumble, Square Knots Club, and River City Ramblers in the Evansville area. They also enjoyed playing Clabber. Palmer was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to folks in need. He is survived by his wife, Norma; son, Dr. Mark Hanebutt; granddaughter, Meredith Baysinger; grandson, Eric Hanebutt, and great-grandchildren, Trey and Henry Baysinger. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 11, at Alexander Memorial Park, Heritage Chapel, 2200 Mesker Park Drive, with entombment to follow. Friends may visit from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 10, at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Ave. Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.
