Phyllis S. Freeman Stump

Phyllis Stump, 90, of Evansville, completed her life’s journey on Sunday, February 8, 2015, surrounded by her family. She was born February 24, 1924, the only child of the late Guy and Minnie Freeman.

She was raised in Clendenin, WV, and graduated from Clendenin High School and The Mountain State College/Parkersburg. She was a 79 year devoted member of Clendenin United Methodist Church. Since 2008 she has resided in Evansville, IN with her family but Clendenin was always home. Phyllis was married to her late husband, Bill, for 51 years. She worked for State Farm Insurance in her early career and later retired from Kanawha County Schools as the secretary at Clendenin Elementary School. Her memories of the children with whom she interacted during those years served as beautiful memories during her retirement.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Tammy (Bob) Flanagan of Evansville, IN; cherished grandson, Aaron (Hannah) of Chicago, IL; beloved granddaughter, Dr. Emily (Jared) Voellinger of Newburgh, IN; precious great-granddaughters, Hensley and Delaney Voellinger; David (Sharon) Fields of Clendenin, WV, although not a biological son David always lived in her heart as such along with his family.

Following her wishes, Phyllis’ body has been donated to West Virginia University School of Medicine via their Human Gift Registry. Having always declared that she bled blue and gold, it is most fitting that her heart end its physical journey among fellow Mountaineers.

Heartfelt thanks are extended to her many Evansville medical providers. Her friends, nurses, and caregivers at both Atria Senior Living Newburgh and River Pointe Health Campus gave her joy and comfort as a loving circle of extended family.
