Robert Combs

Robert E. Combs, 80, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, January 06, 2011, at Pine Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born September 11, 1930, in Jackson County, IN to Oscar and Donna Edwards Combs.

Bob was an Army veteran and a Korean Combat Veteran and the recipient of two Purple Hearts. He retired from Cummins Engine Company in December 1987 after over 37 years of service.

He married Betty L. Denniston on June 18, 1955, by Rev. John Paul Hill in Bedford, IN.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Donna; brothers, Luther and Virgil Combs; sisters, Irene Fleetwood, Nora Murphy and Virginia Flo Lambdin.

Robert is survived by his wife, Betty; daughter, Kathy A. (Roger L.) Gauger of Evansville; J. William Combs of Brownstown, IN and Nina Combs of Anaheim, CA, as well as four nephews and seven nieces.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Diana Wilson, the staff on the North Unit at Pine Haven, April, Tammi, Angela, Heather, Lisa, Carolyn, and all the Deaconess Hospice staff who took such loving care of Bob.

Services will be 11:00 AM Monday, January 10, 2011, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Rev. Carolyn Edwards with burial at Tupman Cemetery. Friends may visit Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, the Alzheimer’s Association, or the Deaconess Hospice.
