

Robert E. “Gene” Myers, 101, of Evansville, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at Deaconess Hospice Care Center. He was born August 21, 1912, in Vigo County, IN to the late William and Murtie (Akers) Myers.
After 24 years on the farm, he hitchhiked to Evansville in 1936 and took a job at Whirlpool, where he was employed for 35 years before retiring in 1971. He was a self-taught man of many interests, including woodworking, gardening, genealogy, photography, music and bowling. He also had a great love of animals and nature.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Beatrice “Bea” (Schenk) Myers; parents; three brothers; and three sisters.
He is survived by his daughter, Bonnie (John) Aramowicz; son, Kenny (Linda) Myers, both of Evansville; grandchildren, Shari Thread, Traci Robinson, Stefanie (Steve) Miller and Brian Myers; great-grandchildren, Brandon and Jaclyn Thread, Tyler Thread, Mark Miller, Brad Miller, Izaac Robinson and Lexie Myers; and one great-great-grandchild, Gideon Eugene Thread.
Services will be 11:00 AM Friday, February 7, 2014, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Minister David Rogers, with entombment in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
