

He met his late wife, Irene, in 1938 while working at the Evansville State Hospital. They were married 69 years. Late in 2008 after her death, he moved to Sacramento, CA to be with his daughter, Judith, and her family.
Samuel was a longtime member of the Methodist Temple and Crusader’s Class. He was a member of the Hadi Shrine Director’s Staff, the Evansville Reed Lodge #316, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, the White Shrine, Evansville Eagles #427 and VFW Post #1114. He was a retired electrician from the IBEW Local #16.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; and son, Jerry.
Samuel is survived by his brother, Wallace Schaaf of Dale, IN; daughter, Judith Decker and her husband, Michael, of Fair Oaks, CA; daughter-in-law, Paula Schaaf of Evansville; grandchildren, Andrea Houseman of Fair Oaks, CA, Adam Schaaf of Evansville, Samantha Eckert of Cincinnati, OH, Chelsea McCallister of Tell City, IN and Jennifer Mayer of Indianapolis; nephews, Michael Schaaf, Wallace Schaaf, Jr., both of Dale, IN and David Schaaf of Orlando, FL; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, March 29, 2012, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Rev. Steve Beutler, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit Wednesday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
