

Sandra graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1962 and a Master’s Degree in 1964. She went on to receive an Educational Specialist in Educational Administration Degree from Indiana State University in 1978. Sandra began teaching first grade in 1962 and after thirteen years of teaching she became Assistant Principal, then went on to become the Principal at Lincoln and Tekoppel schools until her retirement in 1996.
Known as Miss Sandy on the summer PBS television program “Ride The Reading Rocket”, she was instrumental in the development and production of the program. She also worked on the “Treat Truck” book series with Jack Humphrey.
Sandra was a life member of the National Education Association, Pi Lambda Theta, and the IU Alumni Association. She was a past president of the Evansville Area Reading Council, Pi Lambda Theta, Vanderburgh Elementary Principals Association, Indiana Association of Elementary Principals District 8, and the Evansville Duplicate Bridge Club. Sandra was a member of Bethel United Church of Christ serving on many committees and the Council.
Sandra enjoyed watching IU basketball and football games and attended the University of Evansville basketball games for many years. She enjoyed playing bridge and traveling with lifelong friend Carolyn Stephens. Sandra is survived by many cousins.
Visitation will be at Alexander Funeral Home- East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Ave. Evansville, IN 47714, on Thursday, December 19, 2024 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with service to follow.
A private burial service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery.
