

Sandra C. Oakley, 84, of Evansville, IN, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2025. She was born on January 2, 1941, in Evansville, IN, where she spent a lifetime creating cherished memories with her family and friends.
Sandra had a love for the ocean and swimming, finding joy and tranquility in the water. She was devoted to her faith and shared special moments with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at Crossroads Church and BCC. Sandra worked alongside her father as a bookkeeper at the First Avenue Trim Shop, a role she approached with dedication and pride. As the beloved wife of a firefighter, Sandra was a member of the Women’s Firefighter Auxiliary, where she supported her husband’s service to the community. Her family was her greatest pride, and her legacy of love, kindness, and strength will forever inspire those she leaves behind.
Sandra is survived by her three children, Kim Ferguson, Angela (Eric) Oakley-Word, and Brett (Amy) Oakley; and her adoring grandchildren: Shawn, Brittany Carson, Jacob, Blaize, Caleb, Ellie Schmitt, Alexandra Oakley Kingston, Alizabeth, and Hunter Oakley. She also leaves behind nineteen cherished great-grandchildren; her brothers, Ron (Shelia) Steele; his children, Lee and Sarah Scott (Patti) Steele; children, Matt and Abby and sisters, Jan Steele, Amber (Scott) Lightsey and her children, Emma, Elijah, Apple; her sister-in-law, Jewell Forcum; her brother-in-law, Terry Oakley; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 60 years, Donald Ray Oakley, whose love and partnership she treasured throughout her life.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Sandra’s life on Friday, January 17, 2025, at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois Street, Evansville, IN. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 6:00 p.m. The service will be live streamed beginning at 6:00 p.m. that evening at: www.facebook.com/FuneralStreamUSA
