Sandy was born on January 19, 1947 and raised in Salem, Illinois. She became a talented baton twirler in high school and found a love for photography. Sandy received her B.S. in English and a B.S. in Math at ISU, where she met her husband, Thomas E. Savage. Tom & Sandy were married on September 21, 1968. They bought a little house in Haubstadt, IN and found their first love of dogs. They were featured in the paper for raising AKC beagles in Savageland, alongside Dachshunds, a Saint Bernard, a Terrier, and 2 Spaniels. In 1976, they moved to Evansville and continued their devotion to dogs. Sandy taught English at North high school and Tom taught Math. Her husband decided to retire from teaching, so she did as well. They started a remodeling company, Savage Remodeling, where she was his right hand for 30 years. They loved raising their dachshunds & bulldogs; they were known as the dog breeders at the corner of St Joe and Meier. If you ever drove through, you would see the AKC Dachshund Sign. The Savages always loved to have company to go swimming in the pool and Sandy would always have a suit if you needed one. They also enjoyed bowling in a league for several years, she hit 300 more than once. In her spare time, Sandy loved old movies, especially if they featured Doris Day. But Sandy’s true love was her family and raising puppies. She was a dedicated member of St Joe Catholic Church. She enjoyed sewing, baking, gardening, and doing puzzles. Sandy loved visiting her Salem, Illinois family, Aunt Pat & Uncle Ray Baldridge; cousins, Doug & Lori Baldridge (children, Ben, Brad, & Sarah Baldridge), Mike & LuAnn Baldridge (children, Jordan & Drew Baldridge), and Chris & Ann Tanner (children, Chris, Jr. & Jessica Pommert) on many weekends. She would also visit Bob and Mary Anne in Toledo, Oregon whenever she had the chance. She was a wonderful wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, room mother, and Sunday school teacher, that was loved by many. Sandy was a sweet, caring woman that will truly be missed by many.
Sandy is survived by her daughter, Kimberly (Savage) Fichtinger (fiancé, Ken McDonald); son, Zachary Savage (Jennifer); grandchildren, Mason Fichtinger, Taylor Kemper (Jesse), Erin Fichtinger, Abi Savage, Olivia Savage and Alice Savage; great grandchildren, Mya & Jordon Kemper, Emerie Fichtinger, & Ka’Leeya Aleece Savage, all of Evansville, IN; sister, Karen S Brown; nephews, Joshua Brown (Kristen & 2 children) & Airin Brown (Ellie & 2 children) all living in Talent, Oregon.
Sandy is proceeded in her death by her husband, Thomas E Savage, her parents, Donald Mark, and Paulene Elizabeth (Betty Cope) Donahue, and two aunts. Patricia (Cope) & Ray Baldridge and Mary Ann (Cope) & Bob Sloan.
