

He was in the US Army Air Force during WWII and was an Ex P.O.W. He was a participant in the Veterans History Project and the Library of Congress in 2004. He was in the Mighty 8th Air Force Division, 491st Bomb group and was shot down on his 4th mission and became a prisoner of war. Thomas was a member of the VFW Post 1114, American Legion Owen Dunn Post 5, Military Order of Purple Heart, DAV, and more than 60 years in the Iron Workers Local 103. He was a neighborhood watch member and a longtime member and usher of Christian Fellowship Church. Thomas was a past State Chaplain for Military Order of Purple Heart. He often spoke to groups about his experiences as P.O.W. and was on a Chanel 9 TV interview for Feel the History.
Thomas was married to the love of his life, Daphne (Peggy) Young, for 67 years before her death in 2010. He enjoyed growing roses and his beautiful yard. He loved gardening, camping in his motor home, woodworking, and square dancing in his younger years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob Herbert Harp and Mincie Tirandy Harp; sisters, Wyota Lucille Harp, Mary Elizabeth Harp; brothers, Juston Herbert Harp, Dennis Beverly Harp, and Oscar Wayland Harp.
Thomas is survived by son, Kenneth Harp (Pam), Eddyville, Ky; daughter, Dana Harp Dieterle (Max), Mt. Vernon, IN; sister-in-law, Phyllis Young, Evansville; granddaughters, Kerri Ziliak (Bret), Evansville, Daniele Weaver (Guy)Imperial, MO, Helen Moll & fiance Jon Erick Anes, Tampa, FL; grandsons, Jeffrey Harp (Kathia), Corte Madera, CA, Timothy Harp (Robin), Knoxville, TN, Travis Moll (Shawnette), Land O’Lakes, FL; great-grandchildren, Jenna Harp, Austin, TX, Jessica Manley & Eric, U.S. Army, Adam Lottes, Evansville, Andrea Conkright, Evansville, Benjamin Harp, Corte Madera, CA, Nicolas and Lucas Harp, Knoxville, TN, Gracesyn Moll, Land O’Lakes, FL, Mattie, Caleb and Joshua Weaver, Imperial MO, Thomas, Karlee, Sam and Ben Ziliak, Evansville.

Services will be 11:00AM, Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Rev. David Niednagel, with entombment following at Locust Hill Cemetery.
