Timothy E. Rea (Tim), age 86, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2026. Born on June 21, 1939, in Evansville, Tim lived a full and faithful life, surrounded by the love of his family and friends.
Tim was born and raised in Evansville, where he attended Bosse High School, graduating in 1958. His early years were rooted in the values of hard work, loyalty, and community that would guide him throughout his life. As an adult, he continued to pursue knowledge and deepen his faith, earning a Degree in Theology from Wheaton College in 2000 — a testament to his lifelong commitment to spiritual growth and learning.
In February 1961, Tim answered the call to serve his country by entering the United States Marine Corps, where he learned to fly jets. He served honorably until his discharge in 1966 and continued his commitment in the Marine Corps Reserves. His years as a Marine instilled in him a deep sense of discipline, and patriotism - qualities that remained evident in every aspect of his life.
Following his military service, Tim continued his career in aviation when he joined United Airlines in 1966. Captain Rea retired from UAL in 1999. He took great pride in his work and cherished the many experiences and friendships he formed throughout his years in the skies.
Faith played a central role in Tim’s life. He was an active and devoted member of Provident Presbyterian Church, where he found community, fellowship, and spiritual strength. His faith shaped his character and guided his relationships, offering him both purpose and peace.
Tim enjoyed music, golf, travel and routing for Indiana University basketball and football. Whether on the golf course, enjoying a favorite song, or exploring new places, he embraced life with enthusiasm. Above all, he treasured time spent visiting family and friends. His greatest joy came from being present with those he loved.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Mary Rea. He is survived by his brothers, John Michael Rea (Edith) of Bluffton, South Carolina, and Patrick S. Rea (Linda) of New Albany, Indiana; his daughters, Susan Moon of Evansville Indiana, and Sandra Rea (Luis Mallea) of Flemington, New Jersey, and his former wife, Sharon L. Rea of Evansville, Indiana. He was a proud grandfather to Richard A. Iorio and his loving partner, Tamara Robey of Berkley, Michigan; Timothy W. Iorio and his loving partner, Cole Stepro of Austin, Texas; Caroline Iorio and her loving partner, Elania Fletcher of Evansville, Indiana; Abigail Mallea of Flemington New Jersy; and Daniel Mallea and his loving partner, Rylee Kulpinsky of Tyler, Texas. His family was the cornerstone of his life, and he took great pride in their accomplishments and happiness.
Tim will be remembered for his strength, dedication, steady presence, and deep faith. He carried himself with quiet confidence, a sense of duty, and a genuine care for others. The legacy he leaves behind is one of service, love, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to family and faith.
