Vivian “Nadine” Watson, 80, of Evansville, went home to be with the Lord and join her precious daughter “her baby” on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at St. Mary’s Medical Center with her family by her side.
She was born on May 25, 1932 in Cambridge, Ohio and moved to Evansville when she was a teenager. Those that knew her called her Ms. Nadine. Nadine was a very vibrant woman with a fun loving spirit. She was a member of Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed attending and hearing the songs of Zion even during her illness. Nadine was a St. Louis Cardinals fan, who was very active throughout her life as she loved to sing, dance, play cards, shoot pool, and play softball up until her illness. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. Although, Nadine was outspoken at times, she had a very tender heart as she not only loved her own family but she also extended her love to be a foster mother to Rev. William “Billy” Garrett, Maria Milan and Bernadette Nesbitt and many more.
Nadine was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Virginia E. Chester; sisters, Betty Gooch and Jean Jennings; and brothers, Francis Gaines, Clyde Brown and Frederick Brown.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Deon Chester (Katrina) of Tuscola, IL, Vivian Holiday of Evansville, Derek Chester of Evansville, and Valerie Chester, of Newburgh; great-grandchildren, Olivia Chester, Donovan Chester, and Valencia Starks, son-in-law, Allen Chester III of Newburgh; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, June 29, 2012, at Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church, 867 E. Walnut, officiated by Rev. Larry A. Rascoe, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery in Newburgh. Friends may visit Thursday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue, and Friday 9:00 AM until service time at the church.
The family would like to give special thanks to the Staff at St. Mary’s Medical Center for their compassionate care to Nadine and her family during her last days, the staff from VNA Plus, and other medical staff who cared for her during her illness.
