

He retired from truck driving after over 40 years of work. He was a faithful, involved member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Newburgh Ward. He served the Ward in many capacities including the Genealogy Library. He served also as the first Bishop of the Evansville Ward. He served in WWII in the US Coast Guard. For many years he operated the Monster Ear Booth at the Fall Festival and other fairs, festivals and fund-raising events. He played softball with his children and continued to enjoy watching baseball. He was dearly loved and will be missed.
Willard is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marjorie (Jarvis) Holmes; sons, Jerry (Towanda), David (Sheri) and Darrell Holmes; daughter, Cynthia (Tab) Colette; sister, Lillie Mae Powell; brother, Thomas Holmes; grandchildren, Pam, Jeffrey, Bryan, Timothy, Cejae, Kyndal, Shane, Shilo, Reece; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, September 30, 2011, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 8020 Covert Avenue, officiated by Bishop David Forbes, with entombment in Alexander Memorial Park. Friends may visit Thursday from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Avenue.
