

He was a 50 plus year member of Liberty Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, Trustee, Building Superintendent, Sunday school teacher, member of the Male, Mass and Senior Choirs, and faithfully drove the church van. He was a US Army Veteran who served in Vietnam where he received the Good Conduct Medal. William was a member of American Legion Post #354. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1961 and attended Lockyear Business College for a year and a half. He was a devout Christian who enjoyed helping others. He loved his family, friends, church family and especially his pastor.
William is survived by his wife of 35 years, Artie Marie Coffey; three sons, Carlos Miller, William Keith Coffey and Sean Shelby; two daughters, Catherine and Dorothyanna Coffey; ten grandchildren, Tonya Dade and husband, Chris, Dyshakia Shelby, Sean Shelby, Jr., Cheyenne and Khloe Miller, A’Lexus Lowry, Ty and Chance Shelby, Alex Miller and Summer Shelby; great-grandchild, Zion Dade; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends; and one great-great-niece.
Friends may visit Thursday, February 3, 2011, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Liberty Missionary Baptist Church, 701 Oak Street. Services will be 11:00 AM Friday at the church, officiated by Rev. Todd M. Robertson, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park.
