William Richard “Rick” Townsend Jr., 62, of Evansville, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2011, at St. Mary’s. He was born August 5, 1948, in Evansville, to the late William R. Sr. and Lula (Askins) Townsend.
He was a United States Army Veteran serving in Vietnam and he also served in the US Army Reserves. He retired in 2003 from the Evansville Water Department. He was a member of FOP, lifetime member of VFW 2953, and of DAV.
Rick is survived by his wife of 18 years, Donna (Dill) Townsend; daughters, Tara Wildridge (Scott), Carrie Trice (Caleb), Dana Myers (Robert) and Heather Kleeman (Brian); son, Donnie Mosby, all of Evansville; seven grandchildren; brothers, Leon “Lee” Askins (Toni) and Mike Townsend (Anne), of Houston, TX.
Services will be 11:00 AM Monday, February 28, 2011, at Alexander West Chapel, officiated by Matt Hurt, with burial in Alexander Memorial Park. Owen Dunn Post #5 will conduct military rites. Friends may visit Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 PM and Monday from 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home.
