

William L. Walling, MD, of Evansville IN, passed away February 25, 2020 at Deaconess Hospital surrounded by family and friends. Bill was born on December 9, 1930 to Homer and Blanch Walling in Vanderburgh County, IN.
He spent his youth in Mt Vernon, IN and talked fondly of his early education in a two room school house there. Bill was an Army veteran stationed at Ft. Belvoir, VA. He served for 8 years. He used his GI bill benefits to attend Evansville College. He graduated from IU School of Medicine in 1960. He enjoyed a long career as a family physician with his friend and medical partner, Dr. Robert Richey. They opened a family practice clinic in Grayville IL and were on staff at Wabash General Hospital in Mt Carmel, IL. After many years in private practice Bill moved to Evansville and worked for St Mary’s Hospital at Convenient Care West and worked there until his retirement. He was a member of The Lion's Club. He was baptized at the age of 13 at the Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon. Bill loved flying and was a long time member of the Experimental Aircraft Association. He enjoyed yearly visits to Oshkosh Wisconsin for the air show. He built several small airplanes with his good friend, Tim Eyer. Bill also enjoyed snow skiing and kayaking. He spent lots of time in his later life working on Sudoku puzzles.
Bill had three children, Brad Walling (Peg) of Bellmont IL, Dr. Linda Walling-Braastad (Fred) of Dunlap IL, and Phyllis Walling of Evansville IN. They survive, along with three grandchildren, Jill (Zach) Bertram Hunt, Taylor and Morgan Braastad. Three great grandchildren, Alexis and Brooklyn Bertram and Maddux Hunt. A sister Beverly Cross of Evansville also survives, along with nieces, Kathy Grant, Susan Pfender and nephew David Cross. He was preceded in death by his parents and son in law, Dr. Fred Braastad.
A Celebration of Life service will be 12:00 p.m., Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Alexander West Chapel, 2100 W. Illinois Street. Friends may visit Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
