Lucy was born on December 18, 1912 in Owatonna, MN and lived in St. Paul until 1945 when she moved to Everett to marry her sweetheart, Bob Ashton. He passed away in 1973.
Like many of her siblings, Lucy worked for the railroads and retired from the Milwaukee Road. Her retirement was a busy time. She was an avid student of art and a dedicated oil painter, and was a long- time volunteer for Providence Hospital and for her church, St. Mary Magdalen. Before her husband's passing, she and Bob were active members of the VFW.
Although art was her passion, she loved flowers and gardening and in her last years, she enjoyed walks and drives to observe the trees and flowers in her neighborhood.
Lucy was known for her kindness, generous spirit, and sense of humor, as well as her great capacity for delight. These qualities served her well throughout her life.
She is survived by her sister, Patricia C. Wilson of Everett, WA; her nieces, Mary K. Smith of Cambria, CA and Judy Kapsner of Chippewa Falls, WI; and her nephews, Thomas Kapsner of Otter Lake, MN, Patrick Kapsner of Pawtucket, RI, and Dan Kapsner, of Olympia, WA.
Nephews James Kapsner of St. Paul, MN, and Phillip Ashton of Newberg, OR preceded her in death.
The family particularly wishes to thank Lucy's caregivers, Melke Fufa and Regassa Ruda, whose loving care was a great comfort to her.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church on Friday, July 1, 2011 at 1:30 p.m., followed by a graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. Mary Magdalen School, Everett, The Providence General Foundation, or the charity of their choice.
Arrangements under the direction of Purdy & Walters with Cassidy Funeral Home, Everett, WA. (425-252-2191).
