Alvin T. Hernandez went to his heavenly home on February 17, 2014. He was born on April 23, 1934 to Mike and Guadalupe Hernandez in Mesa, Arizona. He grew up in the Methodist church, was a boy scout, had many boyhood friends and loved to make his own toys. In 1951, Alvin joined the United States Army and served as a Sgt. in the Korean War until honorably discharged in June of 1954. It was in 1953 that he met and married his loving wife Barbara A. McDonald and together they had a family of six wonderful children. Alvin then went on to work over 30 years for the Weyerhaeuser Corporation until he retired and then continued to enjoy work at Everett Engineering. Alvin has always enjoyed a variety of hobbies including fishing, jewelry making, woodworking, gardening, making toys for his grandchildren and caring for his loving family. A believer in Jesus Christ, he could turn chalk lines on a cement driveway into an elegant hand built river boat. Compassionate and kind, he once rescued a shivering brown puppy from abandonment in the snow and ice. Thoughtfully, he loved everyone in a unique way. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Guadalupe Hernandez. He is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years Barbara A. Hernandez, his six children Darcelle Hernandez-Rutz , Robert M. Hernandez, Cynthia S. Hernandez, Susan E. Eckstrom, Barbara H. DiRe, John M. Hernandez, his fifteen (15) grandchildren and his ten (10) great grandchildren. He is loved by many more.
