Peggy was born in Bottineau North Dakota, the oldest child of her parents Nels and Helga Petterson (Berg) on June 19, 1932. The family relocated on July 3rd, 1942 to Washington and settled in Everett where she attended North Junior High and graduated from Everett High, class of 1950. In 1973, she went back to school to fulfill one dream, earning her Associates of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education from Everett Community College.
On Valentine’s Day 1950 she met the man of her dreams while at a dance at Normana (Sons of Norway) Hall and thus began a love affair that lasted until Harry’s passing in 2009. Her proudest family moments were her marriage to Harry and the birth and raising of her children and grandchildren.
Peggy was very active in the community. From 1959 – 1983 she held numerous positions within her children’s school PTA programs and received the Golden Acorn Award at Whittier Elementary School in 1974. She volunteered as a Big Sister for the Everett Boys Club, taught Sunday school at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church for many years, and helped start the Couples Club for young married couples. Those relationships developed back then have remained to this day lifelong friendships. The family relocated their fellowship to Central Lutheran Church, where she was active in many circles and church activities. She was very active and involved in the Everett Senior Center. After Harry’s passing, Peggy’s passion turned to making quilts and dressing gowns for The Hospice Center, the last three years. Another joy was her involvement in the organization of the class of 1950 Reunion’s. She always looked forward to seeing everyone and catching up with her classmates. She was a loyal Seagull alum.
Peggy was a lifelong member of the Sons of Norway Lodge. In her youth she was crowned the Sons of Norway Queen of the Boarder Festival and was also the Eagles Salmon Derby Princess two years in a row.
Peggy worked with children for 20 years within the Edmonds School District as an Educational Assistant at Spruce and Lynndale Elementary Schools, retiring in 1994. Upon finding retirement a bit dull, she spent the next few years substituting within the Everett School District.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Harry; her parents, Nels, and Helga. She was also preceded in death by her younger sister Marlys Jensen. She is survived by her sons: Darrell (Barb), Bill (Denise) and daughter Vicky Goetz; six grandchildren, Ben, Eric, Scott (Christine), Andrew, Chris and Alee; three great-grandchildren, Logan, Anna and Jacob; Brother Norm Petterson (Pat), Sister Bernice Bell, brother-in-law Dick Jensen; several nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends.
