Deeda Ilene Smith was born on April 12, 1917 to Van O’Dell and Icie Nutter O’Dell. She passed away March 27, 2016 at Country Care Adult Family Home in Snohomish, WA. Deeda grew up in the Sunnyside area of Marysville WA. After the death of her father, her mother raised the six O’Dell girls and their brother.
On January 18, 1945 she married Chester A. Smith and resided in Phoenix until they moved to Everett in 1964. Their love of ballroom dancing was enjoyed by many who would clear the floor to watch them dance at the Everett Yacht Club and Elks Club until their health no longer permitted. Her unconditional love of animals was always present in their home with the cats and dogs she had for pets through the years.
Deeda was the glue that held the O’Dell family together hosting many summer family reunions. She truly loved her family and friends. For many years, Deeda was a cook at Everett General Hospital. She loved to cook for everyone especially Mexican food or her good old Reuben sandwiches.
Deeda is survived by her children, Vanna Smith of Renton, Richard Smith (Nancy) of Everett, and granddaughter, Lyndsey Smith of Everett. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, a son, Chet Williams, five sisters and one brother.
A celebration honoring her will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2016 at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, 1615 SE Everett Mall Way, Everett, WA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Northwest Organization for Animal Help (The NOAH Center).
