One could not ask for a better neighbor than Elsie. I miss her lovely smile and cheerful outlook on life! She always talked to our children and wanted to know their latest adventures. One of my goals in life is to remain as active as Elsie (and Charles!) when I am in my eighties and nineties!! Nothing like making a forty-year-old feel guilty for being inside the house when your eighty year old neighbor is outside (at 9pm) weeding and edging her yard and lawn!! Her kindness and hospitality were a wonderful example to my children. And when I finally get a plum off of the plum start you gave me - I will smile and fondly remember you. You will be missed.

Elsie and Myron were the first neighbors Charlie and I met when we moved into our house on 99th, July 1992. After living a couple of houses from Elsie for over 15 years we have lots of memories. I'd like to share a few...
Elsie used to say she hated to cook, but I have several recipes in my recipe box with her name on them.
Some of our favorites are Zucchini Sweet Relish, Butterscotch Whirls Cookies and at Christmas Date Ball frying pan cookies made in a cast iron skillet. I understand that at Elsie's Clam Chowder was very good also, however, I never tried it. I couldn't understand why those little rubbery things were in perfectly good potato soup. She used to laugh at me.
Myron and Elsie had a 1972 YELLOW Lincoln Continental, the only one in Everett, I think. They also had an Edsel station wagon, but Elsie's favorite car was her little Mustang. (Before my time, but she spoke of it often) She was also pretty fond of a bright red Cadillac with heated seats.
Gigi was Elsie's little black poodle. Elsie loved that little dog and Gigi loved Elsie.
Elsie loved to garden. She would work outside so hard her back would hurt. She grew and canned green beans, beets and of course, zucchini and lots of flowers.
I have a vivid picture in my memory of Elsie in her dark blue overalls all splattered with paint with a 3 inch paint brush on top of a too tall ladder for an eighty-something year old  painting her house.
To say Elsie was spunky is true, but she was also one of the kindest delightful determined and a bit stubborn young at heart gals I ever knew.
Myron passed and a long came Charles. Elsie wasn't moving so Charles came to our neighborhood.
Everyone liked him, he would tell us to walk on the pavement and not on the sidewalks and that a light needed to be on the flag if we left it out at night.
He and Elsie were happy together for several years. Then time took a toll and they had to move.
I ran into Charles and Elsie one day at our neighborhood Bartell's. Elsie was well along with memory problems but she still remembered me, or at least I thought she did, She was looking for RED lipstick! In her 90s and wearing red lipstick!! Young at heart I think.
Bye Elsie, You were not only a good neighbor but also a true true friend and will always be remembered.

The Grandfather Clock:  One cold snow covered day, Charles ventured out in his car to the House of Clocks in Lynnwood.  He knew Elsie always wanted a grandfather clock, so this Christmas her dream would come true.  One day when the door bell rang at their home he asked Elsie to answer. When she opened the door what was staring at her but that beautiful grandfather clock wrapped with a gorgeous red ribbon.  Candy gets stale and flowers wither.  Words and deeds that say you enrich my life go on forever.  I will miss you my dear friend Elsie. Your loving friend.

Sorry to hear about Elsie. She was such a great lady. We will all miss her. Arlene Burnham
