She was still smiling and witty at 102 and 5 months!
This longtime Everett resident was born in Haines, Oregon. There were five children. Like "pioneers" they moved by horse and wagon to Washington in 1916.
She married J R (Dick) Woodward in June, 1928. Her children were Fay, Nina, Lois Maxine, Ken and John.
Dick helped build the Grand Coulee Dam. They moved to Everett in 1939. The house on Chestnut Street was her home until 2005. Dick died in 1945. She was married to Everett Brown from 1954 until his death in 1964.
Ruby was always busy with needlework or plants. An outdoor person, she was active in the Everett Garden Club and the Riverside Neighborhood Association. She worked with others to begin the Evergreen Arboretum in 1963. She was a volunteer with the Everett School District. Ruby was a pioneer in developing independent living for developmentally disabled, and a founding member of Quil Ceda House in Marysville, WA.
Ruby is survived by her daughter, Nina (Taylor), and five generations of descendants.
A memorial will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2012 from 2-5 p.m. in the Cascadian Room at Ancora Village, 710 - 124th St. SW, Everett, WA.
