

Gary A. Marple passed away on June 20, 2024. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and graduated from Oakridge High School in Oakridge, TN in 1965. He was a U.S. Army veteran from the Vietnam War, receiving the following medals and ribbons during his service: Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic Vietnam Campaign Medal with device 1960, and Sharpshooter. He then worked for General Motors for 37 years as an oiler.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Barbara Marple, son Samuel Marple of Fairborn, OH, Daughters Christina Childers of Chesterfield, VA, Katina (Dan) Johnson of Trotwood, OH, and brother Johnny Lee Marple. He is also survived by his nephew Brent (Jennifer) Marple of New Orleans, LA, grandchildren: Malikye (Jessica) Pierce, Hope (Tyler) Walters, Mahaley Childers, Kalena Childers, and Jimmy Childers, as well as great-grandchildren: Noah Pierce, Isaiah Pierce and many cousins and friends.
Gary is preceded in death by his father Lloyd Marple, his mother Geraldine Spears, step-father Jack Spears, and his mother and father-in-law, Janie and James Taylor.
Gary was a true patriot, proud of his military service and his country. He was a devoted husband, father, and papaw. He never met a stranger and was a friend to all and an enemy to none. He was also an avid animal lover, especially to his Chihuahua, Chewie. Gary prided himself on his hard work, being the provider for his family, and helping anyone in need.
A visitation for Gary will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Burcham Tobias Funeral Home from 12PM-1PM with a service at 1PM, followed by burial at Byron Cemetery in Fairborn, OH.
