

Passed away on September 27, 2016 at the age of 80 after a long illness. Ben, son of Ben and Erna Timian, was born in Dresden, ND. As a teenager, he moved with his parents to Tucson, AZ. He graduated from the University of AZ where he participated in the Air Force ROTC Program. He met his future wife, Jane Ellen Newlin, shortly after graduation and enlistment in the Air Force. They were married on July 4, 1958 in Texas where Ben was attending OCS school. Ben was sent to Korea several months later. Their first son, Jon, was born in Indiana in 1959. After returning from Korea, Ben and his family were stationed in Japan, where their second son, Mark, was born. Ben was stationed at several locations thereafter, including a tour in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He finished his military career at the Defense Intelligence Agency at the Pentagon, retiring as a Lt. Colonel after 22 years of service. Ben and Jane remained in the DC area, where he worked as a Project Manager for PRC and its successors for 25 years. They lived in Fairfax City, raising their sons and a series of rescue dogs. After retirement, Ben and Jane enjoyed travelling, antiquing and spending time with their children and grandchildren. Ben took great pleasure in his small business, Nameit Antiques, selling antique tools, maps, steins and other vintage items at the Fairfax Farmers Market. Jane passed away in December 2009, a year and a half after they celebrated their 50th Anniversary. Ben was predeceased by sister Edna and brothers Orville and Victor. He is survived by brothers George and Richard; sons Jon (Lynne) and Mark (Mary McGhee); grandchildren Sarah and Ben. Viewing will be Friday, October 14, 4 to 8 p.m. at Demaine Funeral Home, Fairfax VA. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery, date to be announced.
