Diane was born in Greensboro, NC. She went to Page High School in Greensboro, NC and then went to East Carolina University in Greenville, NC graduating with a Bachelor of Education.
Diane was the Republican National Committeewoman from North Carolina for several years and managed several political campaigns before joining the Reagan Administration in the early 1980s. She resigned her position as the Special Assistant to the Secretary of Agriculture at the end of the Reagan Administration.
She continued her political activities, working actively with the Fairfax County Republican Committee, where she served as second vice chairman. She managed Elaine McConnell’s primary campaign for County Chairwoman. Diane was a member of the Fairfax County Electoral Board for several years. Shortly after being appointed the General Registrar in Fairfax County, she was elected President of the Voter Registrar Association of Virginia – the first Registrar from Fairfax County.
Diane was a loving mother who instilled strong family values in her two daughters, granddaughter and goddaughters.
Diane is predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband, Jim; children, Laurie (Leonard) Neely of Centreville, VA and Christie Nichols of Rockport, TX; granddaughter, Katelyn Neely; brother, Robert (Margaret) Ward and Goddaughters Shiane Mann and Sierra Mann as well as beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
