

Doris Armor Cochrane, 93, wife of CAPT Edward Lull Cochrane, Jr., passed away quietly in her home in Fairfax, VA on December 4, 2015. Doris was born in Philadelphia, PA, and was a graduate of Friends Central School of Philadelphia and the College of William of Mary in Williamsburg, VA, class of 1944, where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. After becoming a WAVE officer in 1944, she served at the US Navy Communications Station on Nebraska Ave. in Washington, DC. She was then transferred to the Communications Center, Philadelphia Navy Yard. Mrs. Cochrane has lived off and on in Fairfax, VA, since 1957 when she came with her husband who was ordered there for duty. She accompanied her husband on his Navy assignments around the western hemispheres. She was a member of P.E.O., of the D.A.R., Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, Monhegan Associates, Inc., the Board of Trustees of Monhegan Island Maine Museum Committee, “The Book Club”, and the Society of Sponsors of the U.S. Navy of which she was the last President to serve a three year term. She is sponsor of USS Cochrane, DDG 21, named in honor of her husband’s father, VADM Edward L. Cochrane who was Chief of the Bureau of Ships during WWII. Mrs. Cochrane is survived by her husband of over 65 years; her only daughter, Mrs. Doris Cochrane Boyd and son-in-law, Andrew Boyd of Chantilly, VA; and one grandchild. Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
