

John Ratkiewicz of Falls Church, VA, peacefully passed away on August 23, 2024, at the age of 79. John was preceded in death by his parents, William and Rose Ratkiewicz, as well has his two siblings, Carole (Alexander) Miller and William S. Ratkiewicz. He is survived by his two nieces, Christine Martino (Steven Adelhoch) and Donna (Dr. Michael) Fugaro, as well as his two cousins, Joan Buczkowski and Marion Welch, and their families.
John grew up in Hillside, NJ, but spent most of his adult life based out of Virginia. After his honorable discharge from the United States Air Force, he joined the Central Intelligence Agency as an Intelligence Officer, serving at multiple locations abroad. John completed a distinguished 38 year career in 2005 and was awarded the Career Intelligence Medal upon retirement. In post-retirement, he worked as a technical consultant in the private sector.
In his later years, John became passionate about researching his Ukrainian genealogy and was fortunate enough to travel to Ukraine multiple times to meet many family members. While building these relationships, he helped support many different causes through his Ukrainian family and friends.
John cherished the time he spent with his family, friends and colleagues. He very much enjoyed visiting his nieces, his numerous trips to Cancun, and spending time with extended family in Maine.
