

John Alexander Vencius, 73, of Oakton, VA, who dedicated over 40 years of service to his country, both in the military and as a civilian, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2023, at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, Fairfax, VA, surrounded by the loving comfort of his family.
John was an avid golfer, a member of PGA of America, and will be most remembered for his hole-in-one on March 21, 2009, at Admiral Baker Golf Club in San Diego, CA. John was also a renowned blackjack player and enjoyed traveling. He was a huge Philly sports fan and was known to forbiddingly buy Nationals tickets for non-resident family members when the Phillies were in town.
John was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 10, 1950, to Peter and Antoinette (Perrone). His family later relocated to Maple Shade, NJ, and John graduated from Merchantville High School in 1968.
John then attended Pennsylvania Military College and joined Pershing Rifles Company Q-5. He served as the unit’s Color Corporal 1969-70. Upon his graduation in 1972, John earned his officer’s commission in the U.S. Army.
Stationed in Seoul, South Korea, John met the love of his life and future wife of 42 years, Hee Jae Koo. They lived with son Adam Vencius in Huntington Beach, CA for 20 years before moving to Oakton, VA in 2009.
John retired from his position as a Corporate Administrative Contract Officer at Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) in 2015 and was a member of the National Contract Management Association.
In addition to his wife and son, John is survived by siblings: Marie Piccone, Gerald, Arlene Kemble (George), Peter, and Gary (Joanne); plus, many close cousins, nieces, and nephews. He adored serving as “Harabeoji” to his great niece and nephews.
A celebration of John’s life will be scheduled for a later date.
