

Josephine (Mae) Beals was born in Republic, Pennsylvania, on February 20th 1927 to Josephine and Charles Palo. Born the Second of four sisters (Anna Marie, Josephine, Norma and Gerry). Mae graduated Redstone high school in Republic, PA. She went on to become a licensed hair dresser in 1949. While at a dance with her sisters she met the love of her life, William I. (Bill) Beals. They wed in October 1950, Starting a family in West Brownsville, PA. The family would later move to Northern Virginia in 1960. Bill began a teaching career and Mae got a job at Peoples Drug Store in the cosmetics department. While there she was discovered by the Alexandria school superintendent and was offered a teaching position teaching cosmetology. Mae went to Virginia Tech and earned her teaching degree while teaching and running her beauty shop, Mae's, in Arlington, VA. She also found time to earn a certification from Dorothy Gray-Ogilvie in New York for Skin Care, makeup and hair. Later a job opened up to teach Cosmetology for the new Arlington Career Center, where she stayed until her retirement from the school system. Mae and Bill became long-time members of the Arlington-Fairfax Elks Lodge with Bill becoming Exalted Ruler and Mae becoming President of the Ladies of the Elks Auxiliary and Travel director for the Lodge. They both filled many roles in their 40 plus years at the Elks, which they loved. Mae passed away at home on Saturday, January 28th, 2022, at the age of 94, from natural causes. She is survived by her sister Gerry Grant-Aceto, her son Craig, her son William and wife Kristin, as well as six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was a wonderful wife, loving mother, great friend and very kind-hearted person. She continued to stay active, well dressed and beautiful inside and out all of her life. She will be greatly missed.
A visitation for Josephine will be held Saturday, February 12, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Demaine Fairfax Funeral Home, 10565 Main St, Fairfax, Virginia 22030. A funeral service will occur Saturday, February 12, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, 10565 Main St, Fairfax, Virginia 22030. A committal service will occur Tuesday, February 15, 2022 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Lafayette Memorial Park, 132 Twin Hills Rd,, Brier Hill, PA 15415.
