Joyce was born on December 6, 1975, in Manila, Philippines. She was a cherished daughter, sister, and aunt.
Joyce was educated in Catholic schools throughout her life, which helped shape her strong faith and values. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from Assumption College in the Philippines. After moving to the United States, she continued her education with remarkable dedication, earning a Master’s degree in Computer Science from George Washington University, an accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Georgetown University, and a Master of Science in Nursing from Drexel University.
Her professional life reflected both her intelligence and her compassion. Joyce worked as a travel nurse, serving patients across the United States. Her assignments took her to Alaska—including Anchorage and Kodiak Island—California, Hawaii, Vermont, and Connecticut. Of all the places she worked, Alaska was her favorite, followed by Hawaii.
Joyce had a deep love of travel and adventure. She explored much of the United States, as well as many countries in Europe including England, Ireland, Portugal, France, and Spain. She also traveled extensively throughout Asia, visiting Japan and Korea, and the Philippines. Her final journey took her to Australia. Of all the places she visited, Japan held a special place in her heart. She studied both French and Japanese. She was a certified Yoga instructor with over 500 hours of yoga instruction. She ran several marathons.
She had a special love for animals, particularly dogs and cats. Wherever she traveled, she supported local animal shelters with donations and often shared photos of dogs she hoped one day to adopt. She made recurring donations to the shelters she had visited and also to national pet organizations. She also loved the dogs and cats at her family home and made sure they were always part of her life and her memories.
She supported military families with donations and care packages, and recuring donations to Doctors without Borders, Mercy Ships, and Catholic charities.
Joyce will be remembered as a caring and thoughtful person, as well as someone who held herself and others to high standards. She was confident, intelligent, and highly accomplished in her career. Her strong Catholic faith was central to her life, and she was devoted to attending Mass, always making it a priority.
Joyce will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. Her memory will live on through the many lives she touched with her kindness, strength, and unwavering spirit.
