

Judith “Judy” Fraley Vogel, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2025, at the age of 90. She was born on October 23, 1935, in Roanoke, Virginia, to Howard and Louise Fraley. The youngest of four children—Betty, Richard, and Randall—Judy adored her older siblings and grew up in a home full of love.
She spent her childhood in Roanoke, surrounded by a large and close-knit extended family on her mother’s side, the Bondurants. She attended Jefferson High School and later worked for the Roanoke Gas Company.
Judy met the love of her life, Anthony “Tony” Vogel III, at a YMCA dance in Roanoke while he was a student at Virginia Tech. Their courtship blossomed into a deep and devoted partnership. Tony proposed beneath the Roanoke Star on Mill Mountain—one of the city’s most iconic and sentimental landmarks—and the two were married on September 14, 1962. Their marriage was full of affection, respect, and joy, lasting 42 years until Tony’s passing in 2004.
Judy and Tony welcomed their first daughter, Janet, in Roanoke in 1963 before moving to Fairfax, where their second daughter, Anne, was born in 1967. Family was always the heart of Judy’s world. She was a loving and gentle mom whose quiet strength, unwavering patience, and open-hearted forgiveness created a home filled with warmth, safety, and unconditional love.
A tomboy at heart, Judy had a lifelong enthusiasm for sports. She ran track in middle school—where her competitive spirit first took root—and she remained an avid sports fan throughout her life. She loved watching football, baseball, and basketballand cheering on her Washington teams. She followed college football just as passionately, with a special fondness for the Virginia teams.
In the 1980s, Judy worked for the American Lung Association, where she formed friendships that endured long after the office closed. For more than twenty years, she met her former coworkers for monthly lunches—cherished gatherings marked by laughter, stories, and enduring friendships.
A devoted believer in Christ, Judy was a longtime member of Pender United Methodist Church in Fairfax. She was gentle, kind, and never criticized. She was known for her sweet tooth, love of tech gadgets, and sharp wit.
Judy is survived by her daughters, Janet Coleman and Anne Vogel; her son-in-law, John Coleman; her grandson, Scott Coleman; and cherished in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, humility, grace, and abundant love.
Her family is profoundly grateful for the many years they were blessed to share with her. Judy will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever treasured.
