

She studied Art in South Korea before moving to the US in 1964 on a student visa. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the National Art Academy District of Columbia. She met David Smith in 1966 as colleagues at the Smithsonian and married in 1967. They have two children, Paul and Debbie, and two grandchildren, Aaliyah and Julia. Her nieces and nephew are Chason, Claudine, Sharon, China, and Ukyong.
As a talented artist, Jung Lea worked as a scientific illustrator and throughout her life she created countless paintings, sculptures and other pieces of art for clients and shows, while collecting multiple accolades. She shared her talents by teaching Art, as well as Sunday school, tennis and English - working as an interpreter for courts, schools and families. She was a member of the Potomac Valley Watercolor Society and the VA Watercolor Society.
Jung Lea loved God, church, family, friends, animals, art, tennis, pickleball, ping pong, gardening, flowers, nature, learning, humor, laughing, vibrant colors, puzzles, cooking, helping others, and life.
A Celebration of Jung's life will be held from 2 to 4 pm on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Demaine Fairfax Funeral Home.
