

On Thursday, June 4, 2015, Larry Steele Kegley, of Fairfax, Virginia, passed away at the age of 80, surrounded by his family. Larry was born on October 4, 1934, in Wytheville, VA. He leaves behind his loving wife Nancy; daughters Cindy Hickerson and her husband Jim Hickerson , Patty Trail and her husband Mike Trail, Terri Meriweather and her husband James Meriweather and Misty Buchanan and her fiancé Chris Prosser.; five grandchildren Jessie, Courtney, Nichole, Jake and Michael; five brothers Bill, Wayne, Maynard, Randall and Russell Kegley and four sisters Betsy Pack, Nancy Tibbs, Miriam Layton and Sharon Mabe; and a many nieces and nephews and extended family. Larry enlisted in the United States Navy in 1952 where he proudly served his country aboard the aircraft carrier USS Lexington. On December 3, 1960, Larry was discharged from the Navy as an aviation structural mechanic, US Navy Reservist. Larry followed his Navy service with a long and distinguished career with the Department of the Navy Naval Research Laboratory until he retired in 1996. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 10th from 11 AM to 1 PM with funeral service at 1:00 PM at Demaine Funeral Home, 10565 Main Street, Fairfax, VA. A graveside service with military honors will be held at St John's Cemetery in Wytheville, VA at a later date.
