Rachel C. Hedrick

RACHEL CHILDRESS HEDRICK, age 96, of Annandale, Virginia passed away peacefully on April 2, 2026 with her two daughters by her side. She was born in Lynchburg, VA on July 20,1929 to James B. and Lucy W. Childress.

Rachel graduated from E.C. Glass High School, Lynchburg, VA in 1946 and went to work for a patent law firm in Lynchburg, Va. On May, 27,1950, she married Floyd Dudley Hedrick (deceased 2003) and moved with him to Alexandria, Va in 1960. From, 1963-1980, Rachel worked for patent law firm Cameron, Kerkam, Stowell and Stowell and in 1980 she was recruited by Mobil Oil to work in the Patent and Trade Law Office of its corporate headquarters in New York City. She spent six months living and working in Manhattan and transferred with Mobil Oil when it moved its corporate headquarters to Fairfax, Va. Rachel retired from Mobil Oil in 1995. In retirement, Rachel and Floyd enjoyed winters together in Delray Beach, Florida for many years.

Rachel will be remembered for her deep faith in Jesus Christ, her joyful spirit, and her love for God’s word. Feisty, friendly, and full of life, radiating with joy and love, she never missed an opportunity to witness for Christ to bring others closer to the Lord. Known for her quick wit and infectious smile, Rachel walked her talk, never met a stranger, and was loved by all she met. She is now at home and at peace in the arms of her Lord and Savior.

Rachel is survived by her two daughters, Susan Hedrick Duclos of Aurora, NC. and Alice Hedrick Cole of Blairsville, GA. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Floyd D. Hedrick, her parents, one sister, Edith Mae Smith, and 3 brothers, Fred Wilson, William Holmes, and Robert Huey.

Viewing will be held at Demaine Funeral Home, 10565 Main Street, Fairfax, VA on Wednesday, April 8, from 10:30 to 12:30. A graveside service and burial will be held at Quantico National Cemetery at 2 pm same day, where her husband of 53 years is also buried.
