Bob devoted his life to his wife Bo (Moore), his Fairfax High School sweetheart from the Class of 1952. Bob and Bo were married in Vienna Presbyterian Church in 1956. Surviving with Bo are their four children and their families, daughter Cindy and her husband Charlie Pisco, son Rob and his wife Sally, son Kevin, and son John and his wife Charity. Grandchildren are Chexbres and husband Corey, Johnathon, C.J., Nicole and husband John, and Kyle, and great grand-daughter Aria. Step grandchildren are Justin Pace, Thai Pace and his children Mordekai and Frederick; Fraser Brown, his wife Katie, and their children Vivian and Brooks; and Graham Brown.
Born March 6, 1934, Bob grew up in the quiet streets of Fairfax, seeking endless mischief with his twin brother Donald. After high school, he attended college at Emory & Henry University.
Bob was a United States Marine Corps pilot flying Skyraiders and A-4 Skyhawks in Japan, Panama, and the USA. He retired as a Captain on the 747 at United Airlines, after safely flying his passengers all over the world, from 1960 to 1994.
A devoted husband and father, Bob cherished his time at home with his family. His children kept him busy with scouting, softball, baseball, football, basketball, high school debate, rifle marksmanship competition, flying lessons, and family vacations. When the kids were in school, his “church” was his quiet five acres of woods that provided peaceful time with nature, alongside his beloved German Shepard. He volunteered as a church elder, sports team coach, homeowners association president, and pilot union legal representative, among many other pursuits.
In retirement his passion was his racing sailboat on Chesapeake Bay, with Bo as his first mate, after passing the test for a Captain’s license from the Annapolis Sailing School.
Bob persevered through heart and kidney failure with great strength and determination. He battled his cancer valiantly. The family takes great comfort in knowing that he is with God in Heaven, reuniting with past family and friends, to begin his work as an angel, ever protecting his family.
