 Obituario de Stephen Leroy Hasty
Of Fairfax, VA, on September 12, 2020 at the age of 83. Beloved husband of the late Mary E. Hasty (nee Cassady); dear father of Elizabeth Frye and son-in-law Kevin and the late John Hasty; grandfather to Jessica, Timothy, and Sarah; great-grandfather to Matthew, Jeremy, Charlotte, and Blake. You could say Stephen was a Renaissance man. He was a longtime manager and devoted employee of Panalpina Freight in Sterling but his real passions lay outside of work. He loved music, from playing guitar around the campfire, singing Peter, Paul and Mary songs with his in-laws's family, to listening to Elton John and the Who on the radio. He was always creating things. He made shark sculptures out of sand at the beach in Ocean City, MD where his family visited each year and once sculpted a life-sized "female form" out of snow, to the embarrassment of his kids! He was one of the founding members of the LABC, a group of guys with whom he planned yearly trips and other functions. He designed a T-shirt for them. He created his own stir-fry recipes, naming them after events such as Promotion Chicken and Arbor Day Chicken. He built a large electric racetrack for my brother, John, that was hidden behind a false wall and pulled down for playing. He loved cars, tinkering with them and hanging with friends at racetracks before he 'settled down' with family life. And he was very much into photography. Starting with developing his own pictures in the 1950s to taking pictures with his new Smartphone up until a week or so before he passed away. His love of the hunt for the latest and best technology stayed with his throughout his life. Friends welcome on Friday, September 25 from 5-8 pm at Demaine Funeral Home, Main Street, Fairfax. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Timothy Catholic Church, Chantilly, at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Stephen’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
