Suzanne Goodwin Byrnes was born April 6, 1933 in Charleston SC, the only child of Wendell Black Goodwin and Eva Walker. She died Monday, September 24 in Baltimore, MD of Parkinson’s Disease. She was a resident of Brightview Catonsville, but called Oakton, VA home for 55 years.
Suzanne had a BS in Biology from Winthrop College and obtained her Laboratory Technologist Certification from George Washington University. She worked at the American Red Cross in Washington, DC where she met her husband Thomas Byrnes. She was a Fairfax County middle school teacher for 25 years. She taught biology, chemistry and environmental science at Herndon High/ Intermediate School. She enjoyed gardening, watching song birds on her porch, and most of all her French Bulldog and Maine Coon cat.
She is survived by her daughter Eva Marie Brandt and husband Thomas of Ellicott City, MD and son Thomas Wendell Byrnes and wife Justina of Oakton, VA; two granddaughters Colleen Marie and Kelly Suzanne Brandt of Ellicott City, MD; nieces and nephews.
Suzanne was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Thomas Edward Byrnes Jr and her sister-in-law Margaret B. French.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to support obtaining a service dog for Suzanne's great grand niece, Molly Ratcliffe. Molly has MED 23 defect along with CHARGE Syndrome resulting in numerous health challenges. Checks should be made out to
