

Born on November 3, 1938, in Winchester, Virginia, to William Eben Trussell and Dorothy Skinner Trussell, Bill dedicated his life to education and the betterment of his community. His career began as a physical education and science teacher at Annandale High School, where his passion for nurturing young minds first took root. He later advanced into administration, serving with distinction as principal of multiple Fairfax County schools. The crowning achievement of his educational career came when he served as the founding principal of Centreville High School, where his impact was so profound that the football stadium now bears his name in tribute to his lasting legacy.
Known for his warm personality and gift for conversation, Bill never met a stranger and was renowned for his ability to engage meaningfully with everyone he met. His quick wit and love of puns brought joy to those around him, while his kindness touched countless lives throughout his career and personal life. He was an active and devoted member of St. Peters in the Woods Episcopal Church, where he continued his lifelong commitment to community service.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Michael Ray Trussell (1981). He is survived by Doris Tolley Trussell, his loving wife of 60 years whom he fondly called "my girl"; his sons Jeffrey Todd Trussell (wife Kate) and William Bradley Trussell; and his cherished granddaughter Sarah Beck Trussell.
His legacy lives on through the thousands of students whose lives he touched, the communities he served, and the family he loved so dearly. Bill's dedication to education, his infectious warmth, and his unwavering kindness will be remembered by all who knew him.
