Born in Lawrence, MA on August 15, 1939, he was the son of the late James Paparella and Amelia (Gargano).
Mr. Paparella spent his early years attending the Pike School in Andover, MA and later graduated from Proctor Academy in Andover, NH.
Mr. Paparella attended the culinary institute in New Haven and graduated from Quinsigamond Community College.
Over the years, Mr. Paparella had a variety of occupations, but he was most proud of the 50 years he spent in the employ of Star Market as a meat cutter. During his tenure there, he was the recipient of many employee awards including both 25 and 50 years for longevity and outstanding service.
Mr. Paparella had many passions: riding his bicycles, cruising, studying history, creating war game boards, and playing chess. Often times, he would ride his bicycle over a hundred miles just for sport enjoying the splendor of the scenery and challenging other bikers to a quick sprint. His love of biking developed as a young child. He was an avid outdoorsman and would take off on his bike and explore many mountainous areas and challenging bike paths.
Cruising was another passion. Mr. Paparella would love to explore the vessels and talk to the crew so he could learn more about their different cultures, their homelands, and their customs.
History was another of his favorite passions. He had his own collection of Civil War and World War II books, which he used as references for creating his own board games with emphasis on battle strategy.
After retirement, Mr. Paparella loved to play computer chess and found the mental stimulation challenging and a way to keep his mind active.
Mr. Paparella is survived by his wife, Carla Baxter-Paparella, Justin and Alyson Baxter, Christian and Laurie Baxter, Allison Baxter and Jason Dudley and his many loving nieces, nephews and especially his beloved grandchildren, Averie, Weston, and Maisy.
A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023 from 9-11am at the Waring-Sullivan Home at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven.
