Born in New Bedford, the son of the late John F. and Edna (Smith) Meehan, he had resided in Fairhaven for most of his life.
Mr. Meehan worked as a machinist at Morse Twist Drill in New Bedford. Following retirement, he held various jobs including bus driver and security guard.
Gerald was a very kind, gentle, generous and loving person who cherished the time spent with his children and grandchildren.
His family includes a son, Gerald A. Meehan, Jr. of Fairhaven; two daughters, Wendy A. Meehan and Dawn M. Meehan of New Bedford; a brother, John Meehan of Coventry, RI; two sisters, Edna Harrison of Mattapoisett and Elizabeth Sweeney of Fairhaven; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Mary Booth, James and Richard Meehan and Rosemary Audette.
His funeral will be held on Monday, October 21, 2013 at 9am from the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Fairlawn, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven followed by a funeral mass at 10am in St. Joseph’s Church, 74 Spring St., Fairhaven.
