

Born in Montreal, Canada a daughter of the late Jules and Delvina (Fortier) Theberge, she lived all of her life in the New Bedford area.
Mrs. Turgeon worked as a stamper at Acushnet Company for 15 years until her retirement in 1979. She also had careers as a hairdresser and stitcher. She was a lifelong member of the Tobey Hospital Guild and she loved to square dance.
Irene was a dedicated and caring mother, daughter, grandmother, and great grandmother to dozens of her loving family. She was a strong, constant, and devoted caregiver to many in her family.
Mrs. Turgeon enjoyed the many holiday gatherings that her large extended family put on over the last twenty-five years and was always esteemed as the emotional, loving core of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Irene’s family would like to thank the caregivers and nursing home staff for their efforts and dedication to her care.
She is survived by her children, Henry L. Pelletier of Hanover, Diane I. Pelletier of Fairhaven, Raymond G. Pelletier of Pittsburgh, PA, Robert Turgeon of Plymouth, Jane Barnes of Hyannis, Richard Turgeon of Buzzards Bay, and Nancy Turgeon of Hyannis; 10 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Theresa Chaput and George Theberge.
Her funeral service will be Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady’s Haven Chapel, 71 Center St., Fairhaven. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday 4-7 p.m. in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME of MEMORIAL TRIBUTE, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven.
