Jacqueline Louise (Comeau) Coyne, 79, of Winston-Salem, NC, died peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2026. She was the daughter of Ulysses and Gertrude (Dubois) Comeau and was the eldest of eight children.
She lived in numerous states during her childhood while her father was serving in the US Air Force. She ultimately landed in Massachusetts, where she attended SMTI in New Bedford and met Walter, her husband of 54 years.
Walter and Jacquie married in 1966 then moved to NJ, where they welcomed their first two children, Loreen and Erin. They moved back to Rochester, MA in 1976 to be closer to family. With the birth of their son, John, they moved to Westport, MA, where they would lay their roots. After dedicating many years to raising her children, Jacquie returned to school and earned her degree in art education in 1989. The following year, the family moved to Winston-Salem, NC, where she became a beloved elementary school art teacher. In retirement, Jacquie and Walter enjoyed living in Naples, FL. After Walter’s passing, Jacquie returned to North Carolina to be near her family.
Faith was central to Jacquie’s life. She and Walter were deeply involved in service in their church, spending years leading Marriage Encounter weekends and supporting family life ministries in both MA and NC. Through this work, they formed many lifelong friendships. Jacquie’s spirituality was evident to all who met her – she prayed and meditated daily in her room affectionately called “The Shrine” by Walter.
Jacquie had a gift for making life special and sharing her joy with others. She laughed at all of Walter’s jokes, and when she got together with her siblings, their boisterous laughter echoed throughout the house. She delighted in planning theme parties, creating cherished family traditions, setting elegant tables, and baking cookies, pies, and desserts. Her family recalls that she only said one bad word a year, and that was when she was making her famous Christmas Eve nut roll. She enjoyed shopping, crafts, and painting, and she and Walter were gracious hosts who loved to entertain. Walter prepared the meals, Jacquie created the desserts and décor, and together they created wonderful memories for their family and friends. They traveled widely and took many cruises, but were most happy with their family, sharing in the special traditions that Jacquie had lovingly built through the years.
Jacquie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Walter. She is survived by her daughter Loreen Wright and her husband, Alex, of Peachtree Corners, GA, her daughter, Erin Coyne, of Winston-Salem, NC, and son, John Coyne and his wife, Isabel, of Greensboro, NC, and her grandchildren, Andrew, Colin, Michael, Fen, and Morgan; her sisters, Carol Nesbitt, Michele Valliere and her husband, Paul, Paulette LeValley and her husband Dan, Sue Seeberger and her husband, Jim, Yvonne Woodcock and her husband, David, Corinne Kartaszewicz and her husband Bob, and her brother, Ron Comeau, and his wife Kelly, along with many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
