Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Jose and Emily (Flora) Monteiro.
He was a United States Navy Veteran.
Mr. Monteiro was a retired police officer from the Acushnet Police Department.
Survivors include two sons, John Monteiro, Jr. of Acushnet and Robert C. Monteiro of Lynn, MA; a daughter, Debra Anne Camara of New Bedford; two sisters, Alice Quintal and Angelina Samanica of New Bedford; a brother, Herman Monteiro of Acushnet; grandchildren, Jason Monteiro, Timothy John Camara and Eric Arnold Camara of New Bedford; two great-granddaughters. He was the brother of the late Louis and Joseph Monteiro.
