

Joseph Nere Roy, 92, died Saturday, August 7, 2010 in Sebring, FL. He was the husband of the late Rachel (Benoit) Coyne Roy. He was born in New Bedford and was formerly a resident of Fitchburg as well as Fairhaven, where he lived for forty years. Ten years ago he moved to Florida to be close to his son and daughter-in-law.
Joe will be remembered as a friendly person with a continually burgeoning sense of humor. He was proud to have served as a young man in the Civilian Conservation Corps as a supervisor. He had many interests and hobbies such as digging for quahogs, playing the organ, conversing online, repairing vehicles and electronic gadgets, and helping everyone. He was employed by Branch Motors for many years, as well as Hart Toyota in Dartmouth. He was a licensed diesel mechanic as well, holding one of the oldest commercial truck driving licenses in the United States.
He is survived by sons, William Roy of Wareham, Gilbert Roy and his wife Joanne of Sebring, and Philip Couture and his wife Gail of Dartmouth, stepdaughter Gabrielle Giblin and her husband William of Wareham, two step-sons Edward Coyne and his wife Rita of Vienna, VA and Walter Coyne and his wife Jacqueline of Winston-Salem, NC, fifteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Joseph (Pete) Roy as well as two sisters, Annie Demoranville and Margaret McGowan.
Family will receive friends in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE at FAIRLAWN, 180 Washington St., Fairhaven on Friday, August 20, 2010 from 9:30- 10:30AM prior to a Funeral Mass at 11:00AM in St. Joseph’s Church, 74 Spring St., Fairhaven. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Bedford.
