

Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Kathryn Mason, he was a life-long resident of the area. Mr. Mason served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict and later returned to his home town as a High-Vet. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Bridgewater State College and Jens Rison Institute of Business Interior Designers. Mr. Mason was the Vice President and CEO of Smith Office Equipment for many years. He was a member and President of the Exchange Club of New Bedford, Chairman of the Scallop Festival, Board of Directors New Bedford Boy’s Club, Board of Directors Junior Achievement, Chamber of Commerce, Downtown New Bedford Inc., Chairman of Downtown New Bedford Traffic Commission, Supervisory Board of Directors of Citizen’s Federal Credit Union and Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was also an active member of National Office Product and Machine Dealer’s Associations and United Dealers Inc.
Later in life, Roy worked at Greater Regional Vocational High School as the head of the copy department, where he enjoyed interacting with the staff and students.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children, Kathleen Cellino and her husband John of Niantic, CT, Peter Mason of New Bedford, Jinny Kimball and her husband Steven of Fairhaven, Mark Roseman of S. Dartmouth, Joyce Hebert and her husband Michael of New Bedford, Alan Roseman and his wife Michele of Rehoboth and Sandy Reynolds and her husband Thomas of New Bedford; a brother, Donald Parker and his wife Andrea of Florida; a sister, Marilyn Hood also of Florida; twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Priscilla Craig.
Roy was an avid reader, and loved movies, singing songs from the Big Band Era, and traveling. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and always had a friendly word to say. The best way to describe him was that he was always a gentleman. He was never too busy to listen, or offer to help. He touched many people with his smile and generosity, and maintained a twinkle in his eye and his trademark sense of humor. He will be greatly missed.
His funeral service will be held Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 5 PM in the WARING-SULLIVAN Home of Memorial Tribute, Fairlawn Mortuary, 180 Washington Street, Fairhaven. Visiting hours, 2-5 PM. Burial will be private.
